Everyone should have the opportunity to live in a decent home that they can afford and in an area they want to live in.

However big increases in house prices in parts of the country have made it  harder for many first time buyers to get a foot on the housing ladder.

Finding a home

The majority of British residents own their homes, however, an increasing number are now choosing to rent. If you are looking for a home you should consider the range of housing options available.

These include:

• Home ownership, including  ‘low cost’ home ownership

• Renting from a not-for-profit landlord (Housing Association)

• Renting from a private landlord.

The Landlord Accreditation Team administer two Private Rented Accreditation Schemes. These Schemes are voluntary and intended for landlords and agents who manage private rented property.
